The Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, pride of the Quebec music scene and renowned around the world returns to the National Arts Centre for the first time since 1990, with its charismatic new Music Director Kent Nagano making his NAC debut. The programme includes Rossini arias performed by one of Canada’s most celebrated tenors, Michael Schade, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7.

Kent Nagano
Kent Nagano has established a reputation as a gifted interpreter of both the operatic and symphonic repertoire. The 2006-2007 season is the first he heads as Music Director of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. He becomes officially the eighth music director of the OSM.
Since September 2006, Mr. Nagano will also take over from Zubin Mehta as General Music Director of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich.
As a much sought-after guest conductor, he has worked with most of the world’s finest orchestras including the Vienna, Berlin and New York Philharmonic Orchestras and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
He has recorded for Erato, Teldec, Pentatone and Deutsche Grammophon as well as Harmonia Mundi, winning Grammy awards for his recordings of Busoni’s Doktor Faust with Opéra National de Lyon, and Peter and the Wolf with the Russian National Orchestra. The latter features Sophia Loren narrating Peter and the Wolf, and a new piece by Jean-Pascal Beintus, Wolf Tracks, narrated by Bill Clinton and introductory remarks provided by Mikhail Gorbachev.
Orchestre symphonique de Montréal
Founded in 1934 by a group of devoted music lovers, with the backing of the Québec Government, the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal is one of the major cultural organizations of the city whose name it bears with pride.
From Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, part of the Place des Arts cultural complex located in the heart of the city, the OSM shines throughout Québec and Canada. Through its recordings and international tours, the OSM has also become a cultural ambassador, making an important contribution to the spread of culture and artistic exchanges.
Since 1980, in addition to its regular subscription series, the OSM has offered an annual summer concert series at Notre Dame Basilica in Old Montreal, as well as free popular concerts in the greater Montreal region.
