B.C. Jazz All-Stars

Library and Archives Canada - Auditorium
Brad Turner

Hailed by the Globe and Mail as “a kind of Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock and Keith Jarrett all rolled into one,” two-time Juno Award winner Brad Turner’s phenomenal talents as a trumpeter, pianist, drummer and composer make him one of Canada’s most in-demand musicians. Admired for his lively melodies and solid rhythmic grounding, Brad’s unique style on the trumpet has been shaped by an almost willful aversion to the familiar licks and lines that have defined modern jazz.  Brad's quartet includes Bruno Hubert (piano), André Lachance (bass), and Dylan van der Schyff (drums)

Joining the Brad Turner Quartet on stage is critically acclaimed musician, composer, arranger, and musical director Phil Dwyer. A gifted and intuitive performer on both saxophone and piano, Phil has performed with everyone from Aretha Franklin to Ingrid Jensen, Dave Holland, Kenny Wheeler, and many others.

Kicking off this exciting evening of B.C. jazz is the award-winning Jodi Proznick Quartet. Recently named Canada’s top bassist at the 2008 National Jazz Awards, Jodi leads a fresh, intense, swinging and highly interactive group. Her quartet features Steve Kaldestad (tenor sax), Tilden Webb (piano), and Jesse Cahill (drums).  The ensemble, which was also named acoustic band of the year, is full of surprises, performing a repertoire that’s an eclectic mix of the old and new.
