Union United Church is the oldest Black church in Quebec. For 100 years, this building in Montreal’s Little Burgundy neighbourhood has been synonymous with Black Canadian history. Oscar Peterson and Oliver Jones both grew up in the shadow of this church, which Nelson Mandela visited in 1990. It remains a spiritual haven and a cultural emporium.

This 60-minute film is produced by actor/writer/director Anthony Sherwood, a former Montrealer. A question and answer session will follow.

Ottawa premiere.

Presented in English.
