Martin Bélanger

Before launching his dance career in 1992, Martin Bélanger worked as an actor, and his theatre and television background informs his concepts of staging, interpretation and performance. In Spoken Word/Body he pays tribute to the American tradition of the spoken word, a musical form in which words, poems or stories are spoken rather than sung. In Bélanger’s solo, however, the body is more than a mere transmitter: it commands its own presence, its own role as the locus of speech.
