Chantal Dumas

Radio artist and freelance writer Chantal Dumas uses sound to explore new possibilities for narration. Since 1993 she has been creating and producing original works for radio; her “stories” have been heard on local and public radio and at festivals in Canada, the United States, Europe, and Australia. Her many grants and awards include grants from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Fondation Beaumarchais in France; in 1994 she won the inaugural Concours de création radiophonique Hörspiel (organized by La Muse en Circuit and SACEM in association with Radio France). Her 1997 acoustic drama Le parfum des femmes won first prize (Ars Acustica category) at the EAR ’97 International Electroacoustic Competition (Hungary) and the SACD award (Drama category) at the 1997 Phonurgia Nova international competition for radio art and acoustic creation (France). Her work is available on disc from AVATAR/Ohm (Quebec), Nonsequitur (U.S.) and 326music (France).
